Rainbow Trout Sculptures
Hand Carved and Hand Painted Wood Carvings

Franz's Rainbow Trout Wood Sculptures are so meticulously carved and painted that they look "Fresh from the Stream" and will come alive in your home, office or gallery.

Franz captures every minute detail of the wild Rainbow Trout in his wood carvings. From the fluid action of a jumping trout, to the iridescence of each scale, to the illusion of a wild fish in its native habitat, you will be astounded at how life-like these sculptures are. Franz meticulously hand carves and hand paints each sculpture based upon careful studies and measurements of fish that he has caught and returned to the stream alive.

The coloration of the wild Rainbow Trout varies according to coloration of the environment, chemistry of the water, size of the water and food they eat. Suspended deep water fish are bright and silvery. Small stream fish are the most colorful. Because of camouflage adaptability of the fish they have darker coloration and bright colors. In large bodies of water the fish's silvery body is camouflaged when other fish look up at it and the back of the fish are different colors to blend in when seen from above. When a fish moves into shallow water their color changes. This is why you can catch fish with different coloration in the same body of water. All of these factors contribute to the variations of the Rainbow Trout and make it a challenge for carving and painting.
